SharkCam is working to reduce bycatch (accidental capture of non-targeted species) of several shark and ray species in commercial fisheries in Malaysia. They are using low cost, home-built time lapse cameras to inform on when and where bycatch occurs. With this, in collaboration with the government they will regulate fishing in a way to reduce bycatch, but not negatively affecting the local community, who are dependent on fishing for their livelihood.
